travel options
You can fly into Chambéry, Grenoble, Lyon, or Geneva (Switzerland) airports. From there you can hire a car or private transfer (we recommend TTV or 3VT) or get a bus (Altibus or Ben’s Bus from Grenoble). Or you can drive to Meribel (about 9 hours from Calais). Parking is available outside our chalet, but please let us know so we can have a space ready for you. Our parking capacity is taken on a first come first served basis. On busy weeks, we might have to ask you to use one of the centre car parks. Please note, it is vital that you travel with winter tyres and/or snow chains and comply with French road laws.
We are located in the town of Meribel - not Meribel Mottaret or Meribel Village. If you have multiple stop options then choose Meribel Centre and let us know you’re there and we can send a member of the team down to help with your bags if you’d like.
Train: The nearest train station is Moutiers. After that you’ll need another lift to get up the mountain to us. Taxis and Altibus offer this.
You can arrive anytime on your arrival day however we cannot promise your room will be ready until the afternoon; normally 16:00.
On your leaving day you are more than welcome to either hang around the chalet, or go out and about and leave your stuff in a safe place in the chalet until you depart, we just ask that you be out of your room by 10:00.
Our address is: Chalet Altitude, Impasse plan du Moulin, Meribel, 73550, France.
LIFT PASS
If you want to ski you will need to purchase a lift pass. Pre-order with us and we’ll have the pass waiting at the chalet for you. Ski passes can be bought across a range of ski regions for any number of consecutive days. For intermediate skiers and above, we recommend getting a whole area pass - the 3 Valley ski pass, which allows you to ski everywhere. This is a massive area, and you won’t get bored, however long you’re with us. The Meribel Valley pass allows you to ski just in the Meribel Valley. It’s still a good-sized area, and a good option for beginners or less confident skiers. For complete beginners, only wanting to ski one or two days, we’d suggest the daily Mini pass, but these can’t be pre-ordered.
Lift passes will run for consecutive days from the first day that you have booked it for. You will have the option to buy Carré Neige mountain rescue insurance, in case of an accident. This can enhance your winter sports cover, and is a very good value option for giving you peace of mind on the mountain. See here for what’s covered.
For those not skiing, there is an option to get pedestrian passes which allow you on bubble cars and some chair lifts, so you can get to the top of the mountains to meet up with others and enjoy the views.
equipment hire
There are plenty of places for ski/snowboard hire in resort, we recommend:
Slide Candy - Pre-book your equipment online and then Slide Candy deliver your equipment to the chalet prior to your arrival - no queues, no carrying kit from the ski shop, and they collect it at the end of your stay. Please click here for their website for more details. When booking, for Tour Operator select ‘Meribel Ski Chalets’ and for chalet select ‘Chalet Altitude’. Use the promotion code ALTITUDETEN for a 10% discount.
SKi lessons
There are some great companies in resort that provide ski lessons from Meribel Centre. Please see the following links:
Ski Marmalade ski school - British-run with mainly British or Italian teachers. Good for private lessons.
Parallel Lines ski school - also British-run with mainly British or Italian teachers. Good for group lessons.
New Generation ski school - mix of British and French teachers.
Oxygene ski school - mix of British and French teachers.
ESF ski school - the local French ski school mostly French teachers. Often the best value, but not always the best teachers.
